| With the invention of the e-reader came a whole new set of options for Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire. The E-Reader is a device that takes data from special cards. Unfortunately, in order to get data from an e-reader, you'll need a link cable and another GBA (SP). First you'll need to unlock Mystery Events. Go the man in the Petalburg Pokemon Center who asks you for your profile. Tell him "Mystery Event is Exciting". He should tell you about how you're now a member of this club, and the option Mystery Events will now be selectable on the main menu. Now, put the e-reader in one GBA and your cartridge in the other. Link them up, pick Mystery Events on your game and scan the card. It should now start transferring. |
There are many things that you can do with an e-reader and the necessary equipment. Nintendo has made cards that you can scan into the game. Some are battle cards, other give you berries. If you've explored your game well, you will have found a house in Mossdeep that has a locked door in the back. This is where you face any trainers you scan in. Once you finish scanning, load your game and head there to battle. On the cards, you'll notice that there are three symbols at the top, a tower, a star and a crown. The tower means that you may see this trainer in one of your challenges in the Battle Tower. The star means that you may find a "special pokemon" there. For instance, one trainer will have a Gengar. "Special" pokemon can be any pokemon from R/B/Y/G/S/C that isn't obtainable in Ruby/Sapphire, or it can be shiny. Finally, the crown shows that all the trainer's pokemon are lvl 100. Those without the crown usually have pokemon around level 50-52. You'll also note that on the card, not all of the pokemon's moves are revealed. Abilities, items and even the pokemon can also be left blank. The only way to find them out is to scan them in. | |
You can also get special berries from the e-reader. There are currently two sets of berries, the first set has 6: Chilan, Nutpea, Pumkin, Drash, Eggant and Strib. The second one has Ginema and Kuo so far. Scan them as you would a trainer card, but this time head to your father in Petalburg. That's where you'll receive the berry you scanned. Also, if you already have an e-reader berry in your bag, then the berry you scan will replace that one. In other words, if you scanned in a Strib berry, and didn't do anything with it yet, then scan in an Eggant, the Eggant will have replaced the Strib. So make your pokeblocks or plant them before scanning another one in.
If you've been paying any attention to any news about pokemon, you'll have heard about the Eon Ticket. The Eon Ticket is an e-card that lets you catch Latias in Ruby and Latios in Sapphire. You could pick these up at Toys 'R' Us stores or other Nintendo promotions. There was also one included in the November 2003 issue of Nintendo Power. When scanned, the Eon Ticket gives...well, and Eon Ticket to your game (Key Items). Use this ticket to travel to Southern Island via the ferry. Southern Island only has one feature: a rock in the middle of a grove at the forest. Upon talking to this rock, Lati_s will come and fight. This time, there's no running away. If you don't feel like catching this pokemon, at least use Thief or Covet to take its Soul Dew. This is a special item that increases the sp. attack of your Lati_s. Very useful for the Battle Tower.
